We knew we wanted to foster a culture of builders - curious, explorers – from the beginning of Amazon's existence. They enjoy coming up with new ideas. They are "fresh" with a beginner's mind, even if they are specialists. They consider how we do things to be the same as how we do things now. A builder's mindset allows us to approach large, difficult-to-solve problems with the humble belief that success can be achieved via iteration: innovate, launch, reinvent, relaunch, start over, rinse, repeat, and so on. They are well aware that the road to success is anything but straightforward. It's vital to ask customers what they want, pay attention to their responses, and devise a strategy for delivering it intelligently and swiftly (speed is everything in business!). There isn't any business. could thrive without such a focus on the consumer. However, it is insufficient. Things that clients don't know to ask for will be the largest needle mover. On their behalf, we must invent. We need to use our inner imaginations to see what's feasible."
